A couple of weeks ago I was chatting on Skype with Jenny. Truth be told, I think we were probably conspiring as we always do, but that’s a tale for another day…
Anyway, I mentioned the idea of doing a guest post about Adred. Between you and me, I don’t think Adred gets enough press around here. So, in an effort to share the love, this is a special post about Adred the Magic Cat.
Meanwhile, Adred’s just wondering if all this talking will finally get somebody to go get her fuzzy mousie from under the ‘fridge already. Anybody? Hellooooo?
I have to admit that writing about Adred has been… elusive.
It’s been so difficult that it made me think about the very qualities of being elusive and why that is a good thing.
According to dictionary.com, elusive is an adjective meaning “eluding clear perception or complete mental grasp; hard to express or define: an elusive concept.”
That is Adred in a nutshell. I can’t quite wrap my head around what she is or does. I can’t completely express what she brings… but it’s definitely a something.
It’s a something that I love.
While thinking about this in greater detail, I realized that Adred is far wiser than she appears. Adred might actually be called “The Magic Marketing Cat”. And I think she’s taking us to school. Here’s why.
If you look at what this wise little feline is up to, you’ll see that Adred is in fact a brilliant marketer. Like any brilliant marketer, she is not simply the sum of her parts.
She does her own thing. She doesn’t care whether there are other Tarot-reading cats out there competing with her, and she certainly doesn’t push us to accept who she is. She just is.
Interestingly, after reading Adred’s story and getting a taste of her wisdom, we couldn’t care less about whether there are other Tarot-reading cats. Or pigeons. Or donkeys. We want her, and only her.
She isn’t out to get millions of hits, nor is she demeaning herself by marketing to the masses like other cats on the internet. She shares exactly the right things with her right people –like she slept on our heads and extracted our thoughts and needs from our dreams.
Marketing is the most elusive thing I can think of, and only once you’ve grasped that it is nothing less than magic can you begin to use it as Adred does.
It’s about developing your own message that is abso-posi-freakin’ clear and then having the stones to share it. It’s a thesaurus-in-hand constant effort to be who you actually are.
It’s about offering something splendidly perfect to your right people, and gently putting up a velvet rope that subtly keeps the not-right-people from crashing the party and misappropriating the catnip.
Adred markets herself in a way that is as natural and as magical to her right people as a surf-and-turf platter. Everything just goes together. She stays connected with herself. She follows the plan and knows exactly who she is and what her special purpose is.
Oh, Adred, I adore you for being exactly who you are and being able to share it.
And if Jenny hasn’t gotten the fuzzy mousie out from under the ‘fridge yet, I’ll come over and take care of it…
